This month we¡¯re talking Wnt3a! Wnt3a is a vital signalling protein for embryonic development, with roles in cell fate and patterning. Working in synergy with Activin A, Wnt3a is essential to the generation of stem cell-derived hepatocytes. With high quality liver tissue samples in short supply, these cells can be used to culture liver organoids, enabling disease research and drug toxicity studies in a 3D model, and offering endless regenerative medicine opportunities.

Publication Spotlight: Functional Human Gastrointestinal Organoids

In this Cell paper, PSCs were differentiated to produce an organoid model containing the three primary germ layers. These components can be utilized for tissue engineering generating complex 3D cultures, including gastrointestinal organoids.
